Builders Skip – Arriving on site Thursday 29th August – Morning time

Builders Skip

We have a builders skip arriving Thursday 29th August – morning time for all to utilise. Green waste should be composted. Wood can be burned with a small controlled fire. We must stress you should only bring on to site items that can be used on your plot. The skip becomes full far too quickly with non allotment waste been put in them. Remember we have over 80 members so if you can take some waste home for your brown, green, black bins, it will leave more room in the skip for the whole site to utilise. THESE ITEMS CANNOT BE PUT IN THE SKIP – ASBESTOS, PAINT TINS, CARPETS, PLASTERBOARD, TREE ROOTS – TRUNKS AND ROOTBALLS, CAR TYRES, HAZARDOUS WASTE.

Dig It Out – No Room for Racism In Gardening

Our treasurer Steve Johnston (plot 10) came across a gardener from Leeds on social media creating blogs & giving out great gardening tips. He has been receiving a lot of racist abuse on line.

We decided to send him some photos of members on Old Lane Allotments with the (Dig it out) sign to show solidarity. We are proud of our allotment site & we have plot holders from all over the world growing food to feed their family’s & friends. This is a reminder of our blog originally published in 2021.

Dog Fouling on main road through site.

Dear Members

It has now been reported on several occasions about dog poop, on the allotment main path through the site.

Do the decent thing and pick it up. One person is going to spoil if for the rest of the dog owners on the site who like to bring there animal companion with them. Don’t let it get to the point where we have to to stop dogs coming on the site because of one person/dog owner.

Theft From Plots

It has been brought to our attention that members are finding items going missing from plots. Only last week a member said they had French beans stolen. Another member has reported that rotten down Compost from her compost bin has been taken, a substanchle amount. This is theft and it won’t be tolerated. Anybody going on someone else’s plot without the plot holders permission is trespassing and is in serious breach of there tenancy.
